Beyond the shelves of the Whimsical Faerie bookshop there were doors that very few beings ever took notice to. These doors led to magical gardens with streams and flowers everywhere. The door was very small. No one was shocked to learn that the average being would not have been able to tell that any of these doors led to something much bigger than what they thought way beyond their dreams. And, that is exactly what the gardens were made of. The petals would open up when someone entered with strong enough magic to release the energy of the dream into the room. With that, it was up to whomever was willing to create the magic and dream beyond recognition. The doorknob was made of moonstone, a crystal that only faeries inhabited into their faerie lives. If you placed your hand upon the doorknob you were able to feel the fluttering beneath the flooring of the bookshop. Once you felt the fluttering you knew that your lost dreams were coming alive again. At that point, it was up to you to make your dreams come true. It was as if the gardens were breathing. The door only appeared if you believed, otherwise they stayed closed and just looked like any ordinary painting on a wall.
Beyond the doors lay the Secret Garden of Faerie Dreams…
The door did not appear with every visit. It appeared only to those whose hearts were carrying a dream they had almost forgotten or lost along the way. Beyond the door was the Secret Garden of Faerie Dreams. The garden was filled with all different kinds of flowers, each flower had a different meaning inside it’s petals. The faeries called these flowers dreamblooms. Fiora Moonstone was the keeper of the dream garden. She tended the flowers carefully, she believed dreams were very delicate and held very fragile information. She believed that if the flowers were neglected, they would fade and all the beings dreams would fade as well. If they were treated with kindness, they would continue to grow into something beautiful. Even more beautiful than the dreamer could have ever imagined.
In the center of the garden there was a tree. Children of the forests would come in and use the tree as a swing where they’d disappear into their imagination. Their imaginations were so big, bigger than the tree itself. The tree was known to be the Dreaming Willow Tree. It’s branches swept with the wind and carried the children’s dreams into the faerie universe. When children were not using the tree as a swing the tree’s branches formed hundreds of tiny glass shimmering ornaments. Inside each ornament there was a dream kept inside that belonged to someone, somewhere. Some dreams glowed brightly and others just flickered in the moonlight like the stars shining around it. These ornaments were able to be borrowed. Each ornament had special magic that opened up once it was touched, as long as it was closed and not shimmering under moonlight. When the moon said goodbye and the ornaments turned back to their original place they were borrowed from beings that needed to be lit up again and to understand that even though dreams get lost on their way, there’s always time to see them again.
Fiora flew around the tree when it wasn’t being used and as she flew her wings would get brighter and brighter. They looked as if they were painted the same colors of a sunrise on a beautifully lit morning. She wore a crown made of glittering flowers and golden locks that trailed along her wings. She carried a silver watering can filled with moon water and if needed, a wand to make things move along quicker. She believed that dreams did not disappear because they were impossible, she would explain to other beings. She believed they just needed someone to believe in them again. Fiora knew every flower in the garden and connected each one to a particular dream. She intuitively knew when you were there and she sent a dream catcher your way if you needed a little help finding your way and getting rid of the thoughts that stopped you from dreaming. If you were on the same vibration as the dream it would find you. She knew which dreams belonged to the children, the ones that belonged to the travelers and the ones that grew older but never stopped wishing.
One evening just as the moon started to rise above the glass ceiling, Fiora noticed something very unusual. A dreambloom near the edge of the garden had begun to close. This was very unusual. What was even more unusual was that its petals were usually silvery bright and glimmered when someone nearby believed in something amazing, but this time it was very pale. It looked almost like it was about to wither too! Fiora was devastated and knew she had to do something to find out what was going on and why this was happening. Fiora stopped. She felt something that she had never felt before. She felt as if someone was holding on to a secret. Fiora set magic to her ever so brightened wings and flew to the petal and rested her hand against the stem. She whispered very softly, “What is troubling you?” The dreambloom whispered back with quiet sound, it sounded like a bell ringing and waking everything up underneath the ground. Everything vibrated and sent chills to Fiora. A small golden thread, as thin as could be drifted out from the center of the flower and floated toward the Dream Willow Tree. Fiora followed it. High above her, one of the glass ornaments started flickering. It glowed for a short moment, then flickered and then glowed again. Something was off and Fiora had to do something. And, that feeling, Fiora shouted! The same feeling she gets when dreams are lost and can’t be found! This time it was clear. Inside the ornament was a tiny picture of a little child standing there, hopeless. The child was holding something. It looked like a wooden box. Inside the wooden box were pictures, maps, inventions and lists. With each idea she had she’d keep a memory of it, she just didn’t have it in her to make her dreams come true. She stopped believing in herself. She believed all the things that stopped her from dreaming instead. Fiora started to understand and things became clearer. There was a picture of a child sitting under a beautifully lit sky in another ornament. She looked very sad. Fiora recognized the dream at once! Someone wanted to become something! What was it that held them back? If she only knew…
After a while it came to her, Fiora recognized the dream. The dream belonged to a child who wanted to be an inventor. The child was always told things by others that made her believe she was not good enough, and that she didn’t hold the magical powers to be what she wanted to. Her dream eventually faded once she realized that her ideas no longer mattered anymore. She went on living a life that she felt no purpose in.
The ornament cracked open. Fiora’s wings went limp for a while as she thought how sad this must have been for this child, and she knew something had to be done.
Fiora closed her eyes, spread her wings and all of a sudden the garden closed in around her. It was all happening so fast! The silver stream lifted up into the air. The stems of the flowers towered over everything and started vining all around The Dreaming Willow Tree. Ornaments started opening up and releasing powerful bouts of magical spells everywhere and were sent to all the children who had lost or forgotten their dreams. Fiora was on a mission the find the child who wanted to be an inventor. She set her mind on just that. She felt a huge wind sweep in from outside and whirl her around again and again until she stopped and was dropped onto a hill and there she was, sitting under the purple moonlight was the little child holding the wooden box. She looked up in amazement when she saw Fiora. Fiora whispered, “I found you”! The child was scared at first, but realized Fiora was magical when she saw her wings glisten in the moonlight. Fiora was carrying a water pail filled with moon water. She set it aside next to her as she sat next to the child. “Can I see what is inside your wooden box”? Asked Fiora. The child opened the box and Fiora saw just as she expected, a box filled with lost dreams. The child started to cry. “Don’t cry”, Fiora said. And, Fiora began to flutter her wings and send the child some magic to spark her senses and light her up with positivity.
Fiora opened up her watering can and spilled some moon water on the wooden box. In a matter of no time all of the child’s lost dreams started becoming alive again. All of her drawings meant something. The child now understood that even if none of her dreams meant something to anyone else, it simply didn’t matter anymore. They were her dreams and it was up to her to create them and make them come to life. “I have been waiting so long for someone to tell me my dreams were still alive”, the child said. Fiora knelt beside the box and said, “Your dreams never died, it was you who stopped believing in them”.
Fiora ignited her wand and a small golden bird with crystal wings appeared. “What if my dreams fail”, the child said? “Then you will learn something that the dream was trying to teach you”. Fiora went on to explain that failure is not an ending, failure is the beginning of a new path and a new way to explore our dreams. It is the re-direction that most people are afraid of, starting over may seem like we failed, but we didn’t. There were just more things we needed to learn and understand along the way. That is what makes the journey so special.
The golden bird flew above them. The copper boat revved it’s magical copper engine, spit out faery dust and waited for Fiora and the child to hop in. Once they did, they were taken back to the garden together. Fiora waved her magic wand and the garden started to open up. Once they arrived inside The Secret Garden of Faerie Dreams all the doors that looked like paintings started to open up, the broken ornament started to mend itself and the flowers stems stood tall and their petals were not pale anymore. They started to change back to their magical colors once again.
The Dreaming Willow Tree appeared to have something that it has never had before. There was a flower that appeared where there never used to be any flowers before. It was big and it stood out. It was absolutely magical. As Fiora and the child got closer together, they noticed something magical, they saw the one lonely flower glistening under the moonlight and it had opened. “It’s your second chance to dream again”, explained Fiora. The child’s eyes lit up, she opened her wooden box and sat near the flower. The flower started to change all different beautifully lit colors and that is how dreams stayed alive here at The Secret Garden of Faerie Dreams. It is never the dream that dies. Sometimes they need a reason to come alive again.
Inside the flower something was dreaming back.
