Monday Morning thoughts…
As the clock keeps going. Where is it leading us?
We spend a good portion of our life watching our kids play sports. We are there for them, cheering them on and humbled with joy watching our kids love the game. The one thought that always evolves for me is, the clock. There’s something about that huge scoreboard put up for everyone to see. It has so many different reasons to why it’s there. Competition, time management and….fear. Those are the three things that stand out to me the most when I think of that scoreboard. The fear factor is there for these little kids out there playing the game. I can’t imagine what is truly going on inside their poor little minds. I sit there and send love for all the players involved. Sometimes I even root for the opposing team, especially when there is an awesome strategic play involved and I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. Then you have those few coaches and parents along the way that bring their bull-shit to the game. The angry shouting, disrespect and a total buzz kill for enjoyment, fun and simply put; love for the game.
That clock though. There’s something about that clock. The pressure. I think it’s the pressure that always gets me. I’m not sure why. I don’t like being pressured. Yet, I was always the procrastinator under pressure. I always think of my grandmother’s pressure cooker and how it just boils, and boils until you hear it all come out. It’s that distinct sound that runs through. What are clocks for anyway? To tell us the time, yes. Time management, yes. Obviously, I get all of that. Imagine if we had no clocks at all? What did people do when there were no clocks? It was probably a very laid back time to live in. No pressure, just going with the flow and enjoying one moment at a time rather than one minute or one hour at a time. Clocks take from our intuitive moments of freedom and knowing how to manage our time by listening in and honing in on the true fact that clocks don’t stop, we do. The clock keeps going, and going. Time management is one of the biggest oxymorons. Time is way beyond our control. We cannot control the time no matter how hard we try. Yet we rely on them for everything in our lives. Think about it. Would you stop once the clock did? Or, would you keep going?
So. The big question here is how the heck did I wind up writing this. I am asking myself the same question, trust me. And, if you haven’t wondered where this was going yet, I’m about to tell you…
The clock will keep going as long as you do. It is a complete mind fuck. Seriously. We are so bounded by the clock that we forget how to manage our time on OUR OWN TIME. “There’s not enough time in the day”. I hear that all the time. The simple fact is that there is. It is how it is managed. Have you ever been involved with a task and you think you are right on target with everything and then you look up or down at the clock? Have you ever thought at that moment if you didn’t look at any clock how much more you’d enjoy what you are actually doing, and it would actually get done? How many times have you been involved with a task and as soon as you look at the clock the fear sets in that you have to hurry up and get it done…? Now imagine that kid playing a sport he loves knowing the clock is going and going.
For the parents and kids out there playing until the clock stops, don’t forget to enjoy the game. It’s just a clock. For anyone reading this who feels the constant pressure of time management as you look up or down at your clock, remember it’s just a clock. It’s never going to really stop until you do. You hold the power, not the clock. Enjoy life. Enjoy the little moments and most of all listen to your intuition not the clock. I just looked at the clock. It’s 11:11. There’s always time to start a new beginning and letting go of the pressure. Dive into your intuition…it’s leading you somewhere, somewhere a clock will never lead you to.
Love and Light, Always!
