It was so incredibly cold. Snow was falling, and it was almost dark. I could see headlights in the midst of the snowflakes as they dropped from the sky so gentle on my skin. They melted as soon as they hit the areas of my face that were uncovered. I tried to find a nearby tree to sit near in hopes the energy would give me a boost, instead I kept walking.
I came across a deer. At first I was scared, not knowing what he’d do. I had a left over snack in my pocket and used it to help him understand I was not here to hurt him. It’s truly amazing how animals in nature understand without any exchange of words. He came over to me without hesitation. We shared what was left in the snack bag. I think we understood each other. There was a way about him I cannot quite explain. He was gentle and nurturing. He matched my energy just as I felt like I matched his in the moment. He finished his portion, as I finished mine. He looked up at me and swayed his head to the right as if he wanted me to follow. The silence was bliss. Truly, it was. He went off and so did I. I kept walking.
I approached a beautiful frozen lake glistening in the moonlight. It was a scene I’d never forget. “Picture perfect”, I thought. I imagined nearby children ice skating during the day and swaying in the wind whilst the sunbeam captured their most luminous memories with their loved ones. I thought to myself, “It’s the memories that last a lifetime”. Without memories we are left with nothing. I kept walking.
I heard an owl making his most lovely sounds in a tree nearby. He was communicating so freely into the night. I knew I was in luck seeing this owl. They say if you spot an owl at night you are bound to come into good fortune and luck. He was brown in color which represented spiritual growth, inner wisdom and the need to follow my intuition. I took that as a sign. I kept walking.
I saw a cobblestone walkway leading to a beautiful, elegant small house. It was surrounded by trees covered in snow. The beauty of it all was captivating! The gardens were covered in snow and waiting for daylight to un-frost as the sun would do it’s duly measure. Spring would arrive soon and I was imagining how different everything would look. The gardens would be filled with crops, the lake would have children swimming in it and the trees would be our only shade.
I walked in. I smelled fresh flowers, the wood burning, banana bread and my favorite natural soy candle that our neighbor made. We traded some logs for it. I heard the tea kettle whistling as it was waiting for my arrival. My book was set aside, I was on page 111. I sat down ready to get cozy. The kids were asleep and it was time to bond with the one I truly love.
I hope you enjoyed this fictional short-story. It’s a first for me and definitely not the last. This was so much fun. Until next time!
Love & Light, Always!
Such beautiful writing. I could picture the scenery as you were describing it. You have a beautiful talent
Thank you so much, Debbie! My main goal was for my reader to feel this scene with me! <3
